Peptides are short chains of amino acids. They are essentially the ‘building blocks’ of proteins and are therefore critical in a vast array of functions occurring in all organisms. For example, they can be hormones or chemical messengers, transport molecules, cell receptors, key ingredients for certain metabolic reactions and even play an essential role in DNA replication. They participate in virtually every process within cells.

Peptides and proteins are being constantly formed, broken down and degraded, even recycled to an extent by the cells of our bodies. As such, they need to be constantly replenished in the form of our dietary intake of amino acids.

Over time, studies are regularly identifying peptides and discovering their functions in the human body. This perpetual research is unlocking an exciting new world of peptide therapy for many ailments and even helping us with healthy ageing.

At The Skin Clinicians we are excited to offer several peptide therapies which we believe can be beneficial for the healthy function of many of our organ systems including our skin.

We have highlighted some of the most commonly used therapeutic peptides, however there are many more peptides available with different prescribed benefits. After a thorough medical consultation a customized peptide formulation will be prescribed.

PEPTIDE BPC157

A synthetic body protection compound (BPC) that was discovered in and isolated from human gastic juice. As an integral part of the brain-gut axis it is thought to help with intestinal mu-cosal repair and via angiogenesis (increasing blood supply) to promote mucosal tissue repair beyond the gut.

Objective

Anti-inflammatory action decreases musculoskeletal aches and pains, accelerates wound healing, improves digestive function,  protects and heals inflamed intestinal epithelium.

A synthetic GHRH (growth hormone releasing hormone) analog, mimics and stimulates our own Growth Hormone and Insulin like Growth Factor secretion.

Growth Hormone is produced and secreted by the pituitary gland. Secretion begins to decrease at  30 years of age and continues to decline at a rate of approximately 14% per decade thereafter.

Objective

Decrease visceral fat, increase lean muscle mass, increase vitality and energy, restore healthy deep sleep patterns,  organ and tissue repair,  potentially anti-ageing, boost memory and more.

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper complex. Copper peptides are small, naturally occurring protein fragments that have high affinity for copper ions, which are critical to normal body function. GHK-Cu has a variety of roles in the human body including, but not limited to, promoting activation of wound healing, attracting immune cells, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, stimulating collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in skin fibroblasts, and promoting blood vessel growth. It seems to act as a potent protector of tissue and anti-inflammatory agent that controls the oxidative damage that occurs post-tissue injury. The concentration of GHK-Cu in the body decreases with age.

GHK-Cu can help:

  • Improve skin firmness and elasticity and reverse the thinning of aged skin
  • Repair protective skin barrier proteins and thus protect skin cells from UV radiation damage

  • 0.1-0.2ml (0.2-0.4mg) via subcutaneous injection 5 out of 7 nights a week before bedtime on an empty stomach to mimic your natural GH secretion
  • As it has a longer duration of action it is best given in combination with the longer acting
